Conduit: move files straight between clouds, no downloads, no waiting

Moving data between Google Drive, S3 and other clouds usually means downloading gigabytes and uploading them all over again. Conduit skips that. It moves files straight from one cloud to the other, so terabytes transfer in the background while you get on with your day.

You know the drill. You need to move a big folder from one cloud to another. Maybe it's a full Google Drive going to a new account, a client's media library headed into your S3 bucket, or years of photos moving from a personal drive into a shared workspace. So you download everything to your laptop, watch the progress bar crawl, clear out disk space you didn't really have to spare, and then upload the whole lot again. A few gigabytes is just annoying. A few terabytes can eat your whole weekend.

Conduit skips the round trip. It moves your files straight from one cloud to the other, so nothing ever lands on your device.

Why downloading and re-uploading is such a pain

Pushing data through your own machine is slow, and it breaks easily. Three reasons stand out.

First, you pay for the bandwidth twice. Once on the way down, once on the way back up. And your home or office connection is almost always the slow part, not the clouds.

Second, your device has to sit there and babysit the whole thing. Close the laptop, drop off Wi-Fi, or run out of disk, and you're back to square one.

Third, big libraries just don't fit. Most people don't have a spare 2 TB lying around to stage a migration.

Here's the thing. The clouds themselves run on fast, always-on networks. The only reason your data takes a detour through a laptop is that most tools were never built to talk cloud to cloud in the first place.

How Conduit does it instead

Conduit connects to your source and your destination, then runs the transfer on the server side using each provider's own APIs. Your files move from one cloud to the other over infrastructure that was built for exactly this. No download, no re-upload, no staging disk in the middle.

What that feels like in practice:

You kick off a transfer and close the tab. It keeps going in the background, even while your device is offline.

Big transfers run at cloud speed instead of crawling along at whatever your broadband can manage.

And nothing gets stored on your machine, so there's no disk to clear and no leftover copy sitting around afterward.

Who's actually using it

  • Account migrations. Moving an entire Google Drive to a new Google account after a graduation, a job change, or a rebrand, without dragging folders around by hand.
  • Cleaning up storage. Pulling files scattered across a few different drives into one shared workspace or bucket.
  • Delivering big media. Wedding photographers, videographers, and agencies handing hundreds of gigabytes over to a client's cloud.
  • Drive and object storage. Shuffling working files between Google Drive and Amazon S3 for archiving or processing.
  • Offboarding. Copying a departing teammate's files into a shared spot before their account gets shut down.

Safe and, frankly, boring (which is the point)

A migration tool really has one job. Move everything, move it exactly, and don't lose anything along the way. That's what Conduit is built around.

Transfers go directly from provider to provider through official APIs, so your credentials authorise the move and never get passed between clouds. If something interrupts a transfer, it picks up where it left off instead of starting from zero. And you can actually see what's moving and what's done, rather than staring at a spinner and hoping for the best.

Give it a try

If you've been putting off a cloud move because the download-and-re-upload slog just isn't worth it, that's the exact headache Conduit was made for. Point it at your source, pick where it's going, and let it run.
